Neil D. Adams is an ergonomist & safety management consultant with a Bachelor degree in Science (Honours), a Masters degree in Ergonomics & Safety Management & a Diploma in Adult Education.

He has spent the last decade working (both as an independent consultant & collaboratively with other professionals) for a broad range of clients on both preventative & forensic aspects of ergonomics & safety, & has been active on Standards committees for Slip Resistance & Access Standards.

Examples of recent proactive work include: evaluating inherent requirements of bus drivers for the State Transit Authority; providing ergonomic input into the re-design of workstations within the Collins Class submarine; & undertaking ergonomics assessments & making recommendations for workstation layouts & equipment for office workers.

Neil has conducted over 1500 forensic inspections & prepared detailed reports considering relevant ergonomic & safety management factors in relation to alleged incidents of serious injury.

Neil L. Adams has been involved in ergonomics & safety management since the mid 1960s, when he worked with (then) Australian Iron & Steel to establish safety systems at the Port Kembla Steelworks.

He established & lectured in the Psychology department at the University of Wollongong & was also involved in introducing ergonomics & safety management courses to that university, before he moved to the Department of Safety Science at the University of NSW in the mid 1980s.

He has represented the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society of Australia on a range of Standards Australia committees.

He remains a Visiting Fellow at UNSW, is a Certified Practising Ergonomist & is a past chairman of the Board of Professional Affairs & currently vice chairman; he is also a Fellow of the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society of Australia.
